Hydroxyl Radicals

What are hydroxyl radicals?

Hydroxyl radicals (OH·) are highly reactive molecules with an unpaired electron. They trigger chemical reactions within nanoseconds, making them efficient at breaking down contaminants. They form naturally in the atmosphere or can be generated through an Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP).

What do they do?

In wastewater treatment, hydroxyl radicals play a crucial role in breaking down complex organic compounds. This oxidation process turns harmful compounds into simpler, safer byproducts that cause less environmental impact.

How does a radical system work?

GOVAPEX™ radical systems are an Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) technology. They generate a hydroxyl radical mist by combining ozone, water, and air through our patented three-fluid atomizing nozzle—producing the most powerful vaporized oxidant used in odor treatment.

The radicals quickly react with organic compounds to:

  1. Eliminate sewer gas odors by oxidizing hydrogen sulfide (H2S), amines, and mercaptans.
  2. Eliminate or reduce surface FOG by breaking the carbon-double bonds in fatty acid chains.
  3. Slow the rate of microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) by mitigating sulfur-reducing bacteria (SRB) that form biofilm and promote bacterial growth.

LV NOZZLE

The LV Nozzle is designed to generate an aerosol of water particles while incorporating ozone to create hydroxyl radicals. Displacing less than 2 SCFM, it maximizes contact time in small spaces, ensuring effective treatment without requiring high-pressure water or specialized filters. Since there are no small orifices that can clog or required adjustments to make at the nozzle tip, it is both efficient and easy to operate. Engineered with durable polymer components, our patented LV Nozzle is perfect for harsh wastewater conditions.

HV NOZZLE

The HV Nozzle is engineered to efficiently shear water into micron-sized particles while incorporating ozone to produce hydroxyl radicals. Requiring only 2 PSI, it effectively stirs the air within the treatment area, ensuring even distribution and maximum coverage. Designed without small orifices that can clog, our patented HV Nozzle delivers reliable performance even in the most challenging wastewater environments.
