Company History

1990s

Throughout the 90s, Darrel Resch, co-inventor of our patented three-fluid atomizing nozzle, observes the rudimental ways municipalities attempt to eliminate odors using ozone in their wastewater treatment operations. Armed with this insight, he explores a better approach to incorporating the power of ozone in wastewater odor elimination.

1993

Patent 5,232,164: Precisely Adjustable Atomizer. Darrel Resch receives patent protection for a two-fluid atomizing nozzle that is usable when a high-pressure gas supply is unavailable or undesirable. The device is first used to deliver the precise amount of fog repellent needed during mosquito control. This application ensures the repellent is not excessively dispensed into the air, minimizing harmful environmental effects.

1994

Patent 5,337,962: Pneumatic Atomizer Having Improved Flow Paths for Accomplishing the Atomization of Liquids. Darrel Resch receives patent protection for a two-fluid atomizing nozzle capable of reducing a flowable liquid to an ultrafine dispersion of liquid particles in a propellant gas.

1995

Darrel Resch reinvents the two-fluid nozzle to include a third fluid: ozone.

1997

Patent 5,667,558: Apparatus and Associated Method for Reducing an Undesired Constituent of Gas Associated with Wastewater. Darrel Resch receives patent protection for an apparatus and controller that senses hydrogen sulfide in wastewater and sends a signal to the wet scrubber to add chemicals. The controller conserves the consumption of scrubber treatment chemicals and enhances the operating life of the inlet and outlet gas sensors by only periodically exposing them to gas.

1998

Chemical engineers analyze the three-fluid nozzle’s chemical processes. Darrel learns the inclusion of ozone in the nozzle that shears liquid into ribbons of micron-sized particles produces the most potent vaporized oxidant used in odor treatment: hydroxyl radicals

2000

Patent 6,076,748: Odor Control Atomizer Using Ozone and Water. Darrel Resch receives patent protection for the three-fluid atomizing nozzle, setting the stage for a revolution in wastewater odor control.

2002

Darrel Resch officially establishes Vapex™ Environmental Technologies, LLC. The company’s initial focus is researching, developing, and selling the Sentinel™, a multi-gas analyzer designed to optimize wet scrubber efficiency by monitoring gas concentration.

2005

Vapex™ manufactures and sells the Sentinel™ Multi-Gas Analyzer and the new, eco-friendly OZ670 Fogging System—the predecessor to our current odor control systems.

2011

Patent 8,029,726: Disinfection Methods for Surfaces and Enclosed Spaces. Vapex™ receives patent protection for a system and method for producing an ozone-containing disinfecting cloud that includes a pair of atomizing nozzles affixed to an enclosure.

2012

The University of Central Florida conducts a 14-month independent study proving hydroxyl radicals are produced through the patented Vapex™ nozzle. The study results are presented at the Water Environment Federation (WEF) Odor and Air Pollutants Conference and published in the peer-reviewed Ozone: Science and Engineering, The Journal of the International Ozone Association.

2013

Patent 8,518,323 B2: Apparatus and Process for Oxidizing a Vapor-Phase Substrate with Low Dose Ozone. Vapex™ receives patent protection for a separate nozzle to oxidize odoriferous gases through the utilization of ozone droplets.

2015

Patent 8,980,172 B1: Automatic Odor Control System and Method and Related Sensor Module. Vapex™ receives patent protection for an automatic odor control system and method. It includes a dominant gas sensor that generates a detection signal and supplies a controlling gas to react with foul air gas in a foul air volume.

2016

C&S Consolidated acquires Vapex™ Environmental Technologies and continues to operate independently as a wholly-owned subsidiary. While Vapex™ maintains its autonomy, it benefits from shared infrastructure and support functions within the C&S portfolio. Chuck Smith, the founder and president of C&S Consolidated and Guardian™ Ozone, brings 30 years of expertise in ozone technology to Vapex™ operations, fostering innovation in the field.

2024

C&S Consolidated integrates the Guardian™ Ozone product line into the Vapex™ Environmental portfolio to focus on the core strengths of each business and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operations. After integration, Vapex™ begins doing business under a new brand name that includes both operations: GOVAPEX™.

TODAY

GOVAPEX™ is researching, developing, and selling the SENTRY Oxidative Enclosure for use in the food and beverage industry. The company continues to provide the municipal wastewater industry with new, advanced odor control innovations, including the redesigned 2024 PICO Hydroxyl Radical Odor Control System.
